The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, Chelsea Ballroom, Las Vegas, Nevada - Jermell Charlo (28-0, 13KOs) stopped John Jackson (20-3, 15KOs) in the eight round to capture the vacant WBC junior middleweight championship. He made history (with IBF champion Jermall Charlo) by becoming the first twin brothers to ever hold world titles in the same weight division.

The first round started with Jackson shooting the jab and keeping Charlo at a distance. Charlo was leading and applying the pressure, but had trouble getting off with his punches. Jackson was also letting his hands go when Charlo would try to get inside.

Charlo was starting to close the gap and got off with shots better in the second. Charlo continued to apply the pressure and shoot his shots in the third. Jackson was firing back, making the round close with activity but not as accurately with his punches.

Jackson let his hand fly at the end of the fourth to steal away a close round. Charlo started off the fight by landing a big hook that certainly caught the attention of Jackson. Charlo became a little more aggressive and was pushing the action. The action was once again close in the sixth, with Charlo doing just a bit better with his punches.

Charlo seemed to rattle Jackson at the start of the eight, and then following up with a right hand bomb that had Jackson fully out on his feet. Jackson was stumbling into the ropes as Charlo ran the follow up with left hand shots and the referee Tony Weeks quickly jumped right in to stop the fight.

At the time of the stoppage, Jackson was up on all three official cards 69-64.
