Jazmin Gala Villarino suspects it isn’t only oddsmakers who’ve dismissed her chances of knocking off one the best female fighters in boxing.

The Argentinean challenger indicated during a press conference Thursday in Las Vegas that she senses Seniesa Estrada and her team have overlooked her entering their 10-round fight for Estrada’s WBA minimumweight title. Most sportsbooks have established Estrada as at least a 30-1 favorite over Villarino in a co-feature ESPN+ will stream from Pearl Concert Theater at Palms Casino Resort.

Buenos Aires’ Villarino has only six fights on her record (6-1-2, 1 KO), yet the WBA’s second-ranked contender feels prepared to upset East Los Angeles’ Estrada (22-0, 9 KOs).

“I know this is a big opportunity,” Villarino said. “I’m gonna take full advantage of it. I feel like they are underestimating me a little bit, but I’m from the land of [Marcos] ‘Chino’ Maidana and all these great Argentinean fighters, and we are gonna put on a great show on Saturday.”

The 30-year-old Estrada immediately made it clear that she hasn’t looked past Villarino while preparing for her debut with her new promoter, Bob Arum’s Top Rank Inc.

“I don’t underestimate anybody that I step into the ring with,” Estrada said. “You know, I know that this is her time to shine. She wants to come here and defeat me, and she’s coming in as the underdog. So, I know she’s training harder than she’s ever trained before. And I’m training harder than I’ve ever trained before because now I have an even bigger and better platform.

“And I know I still have a lot to prove. So, I know Argentineans are tough. But I’ve got that Mexican blood and that Mexican heart, and I come from where fighters like Fernando Vargas came from and other great Mexicans. So, I’m gonna show that on Saturday night.”

Estrada acknowledged the long-retired Vargas, a former junior middleweight champion, because he attended their press conference. Vargas trains his 18-year-old son, Emiliano Vargas (1-0, 1 KO), an elite lightweight prospect who will box Julio Martinez (1-0, 1 KO), of South Bend, Indiana, in a four-round bout before Estrada encounters Villarino.

Estrada-Villarino will begin shortly after 11 p.m. ET. Kazakhstan’s Janibek Alimkhanuly (12-0, 8 KOs) will defend his WBO middleweight title against England’s Denzel Bentley (17-1-1, 14 KOs) in the 12-round main event.
