With an aggressive attack, Jayson 'La Maravilla' Velez (27-5-1, 19KO's) annihilated Orlando 'El Phenomenon' Cruz (25-7-2, 13KO's) in two rounds, conquering the NABA championship at 130 pounds and getting a higher ranking from the World Boxing Association (WBA).

This was the main event of the card 'Noche de Campeones DIRECTV: La Maravilla vs. The Phenomenon ', held before a full house at the Rafael G. Amalbert Coliseum in Juncos.

Velez came out in the first round with a well-defined plan, which aimed at Cruz's liver area.

In the second round, Velez began to press and attack the body more effectively, managing to send his opponent to the canvas for the first time. A devastating left hook to the liver sent 'El Fenómeno' back to the canvas, and he could not continue.

"I'm drateful to Orlandito (Cruz) for getting in the ring and accepting this challenge, since he shows that he is more of a man than many others out there," Velez said.

"I did not expect the fight to end so quickly, but this was the plan we had, apply pressure and attack the body. Everything went perfectly and we got the results we wanted. Orlandito was coming back after giving a great demonstration against a prospect like Lamont Roach. In that fight they went to a draw. I finished it in two rounds, which means that I am among the big names at 130 pounds. The champions and big names at this weight, they know that they have to regard Jayson 'La Maravilla' Velez."

In the co-feature, the WBA Latin super featherweight champion, Alberto 'Transformer' Mercado (15-1-1, 3KO's), kept an effective jab throughout the fight to successfully defend his crown, gaining a unanimous decision over undefeated Miguel 'El Gallo' Marrero (8-1-2, 4KO's). The cards of the judges were identical 79-73 (x3).
