Barry’s Andrew Selby (10-0, 5 KOs) might be MIA at the moment, but his domestic rivals are still calling for a crack at the British flyweight title he has held since beating Louis Norman on points in May 2016 and has yet to defend.

Commonwealth holder Jay Harris (13-0, 7 early) fought for the first time in 2018 when he out-pointed Nicaragua’s Cristian Narvaez on a British Warrior Boxing-promoted bill in Wales on Saturday night and the 27-year-old promptly called for a showdown with his Welsh rival.

Speaking on his Facebook page, Harris said: “(I) won my fight everyone, 13-0, good points win, won every round, could have boxed so much better but I shook off the rust, on to the next.”

Gary Lockett, his manager, concurred, stating that: “Nice six round points win for Jay Harris to blow the cobwebs off.  Jay will finally defend his Commonwealth title on October 12 (opponent TBA) in Somerset.”

Harris his trained by his father and former British featherweight titlist Peter, and although Harris is leaving the decision making to his team he believes that he has the beating of Selby should the younger brother of former IBF featherweight holder Lee make a return to the ring.  As stated by Lockett, he is due to the defend the belt that he won by decisioning Thomas Essomba last February later this year and hopes it will entice Selby or one of his other domestic rivals into a fight.

“I’d love to win the British title so myself against Andrew [Selby] would be a good fight for the Welsh fans,” he told the Tim Rickson Sports Agency.  “But I leave all that to Gary and my dad.  Maybe sometime in future.  Let’s get this (next) one out of the way first.”
