LAS VEGAS – Jaron Ennis intends to become a more visible presence at high-profile fights now that he is inching into position to fight for a welterweight world title.

The undefeated Philadelphia native plans to attend what Ennis considers a fascinating fight between Terence Crawford and Shawn Porter on November 20. That welterweight championship match will take place at the same venue – Mandalay Bay’s Michelob ULTRA Arena – where Ennis tore through veteran welterweight Thomas Dulorme in the first round of a fight Showtime televised October 30.

Ennis expects a dogfight when Crawford opposes Porter. He wouldn’t be surprised if either fighter won their 12-round ESPN Pay-Per-View main event.

“That’s a great fight, a 50-50 fight,” Ennis told BoxingScene.com. “I feel like if Shawn Porter do what he do, pressuring him and stuff, it can be a great fight. But he’s gotta be smart. But if he do that, it’s gonna be a great fight. I feel like let the best man win, and hopefully I can get the winner.”

Established welterweights such as Crawford and Porter probably wouldn’t agree to face the 24-year-old Ennis unless forced to do so. Ennis (28-0, 26 KOs, 1 NC) thinks he’ll have to become a mandatory challenger before he gets a crack at the IBF, WBA, WBC or WBO belt.

Ennis, who has dominated Dulorme (25-6-1, 16 KOs) and former IBF junior welterweight champ Sergey Lipinets (16-2-1, 12 KOs) in his last two fights, currently is ranked third by the IBF, fourth by the WBA, fifth by the WBO and sixth by the WBC.

Crawford (37-0, 28 KOs), of Omaha, Nebraska, will make a mandated defense of his WBO welterweight title against Las Vegas’ Porter (31-3-1, 17 KOs), a former IBF and WBC champ.

Errol Spence Jr. (27-0, 21 KOs), who is recovering from retina surgery in August, holds the IBF and WBC championships. Cuba’s Yordenis Ugas (27-4, 12 KOs) is the WBA “super” welterweight champion.

Porter, 34, is considered Crawford’s toughest opponent since the three-division champion moved up from junior welterweight to welterweight 3½ years ago. Ennis thinks Porter is the most formidable foe that the 34-year-old Crawford has been scheduled to fight in any division.

“Oh, most definitely,” Ennis said. “He’s the best fighter Crawford has fought.”
