Bostic Ready to Snatch Another "0"

Sets sights on December bout with Jean Pascal

It took three opponents to finalize the fight, but Jameson "Jamie Kang" Bostic was able to make his long awaited debut with Don King Promotions last Saturday at Madison Square Garden. After Shay Mobley and Carlos Ibarra both pulled out of the October 6 date, undefeated super middleweight prospect Marcus Upshaw stepped up.

Make that former undefeated super middleweight prospect.

Bostic helped raise the curtain at the Garden with a convincing 6-round unanimous decision over Upshaw. With his DKP debut out of the way, the Brooklyn-born southpaw can now set his sights on bigger and better things.

"Respect to Upshaw for stepping up last minute and putting his "0" on the line," says Bostic, who rolls to 12-3 (7KO) with the win, his 10 th straight. "Too bad he didn't want to fight as much as he wanted to talk all night. I came to fight, I guess he came to gossip and talk (stuff) all night. Oh well, another "0" snatched by Kang."

It was the second straight time Bostic defeated a previously undefeated opponent, and the third in his last four fights. Craig Ganby and Juan Carlos Lamberti both watched their undefeated record go out the window, each feeling the wrath of Kang in suffering knockout losses.

Once upon a time, the 6'4" Bostic was forced to sneak through the back door, coming into fights as the opponent, leaving as the spoiler. Now that he's found a home with Don King, those days are over.

"It takes the edge off, mentally, to know that I have people working for me," says Bostic, who signed with King earlier this summer. "My manager, Bob Cerbe, hustles to get stuff done, and I can't ask for a better promoter than King, the best at what he does.

"Not having to wil' out over the business side lets me focus more on training, so I can show the world I'm the best at what I do."

The plan calls to make a title run by perhaps this time next year, keeping Bostic busy in the meantime while advancing through the ranks. With all of the division titlists squaring off in the next three weeks, Bostic believes everyone else might as well get busy rather than waiting in line for a shot that may never come.

"All these guys thinking they got next need to stop wasting their time. If you're not the mandatory for any of those belts, you ain't got next. So stop standing in line, step up and prove yours. if you think you're the truth, then come see me. I got no problems fighting anyone. I don't need any soft touches. I got my struggles out the way early, and train too hard to front like I'm something that I'm not."

Though he takes his training and conditioning seriously, Bostic wouldn't mind taking a short cut or two toward the top. Or another "0" along the way.

"I just want fights that will push me to the top of the ranks. If you got a ranking or an undefeated record, or both, step up so I can put you right back down. I don't need any more warm-up bouts. I want guys like Jean Pascal, guys where a win will mean something and move me closer to the top. His people are fronting like he's truth. So come step to me and let me get mine."

Pascal, a Haitian now living and fighting out of Canada, currently has a bout scheduled for December 7 in Montreal. The opponent is the dreaded TBA. Bostic presently has nothing booked between now and then.

Sounds like a plan.

"Hey, I had my homecoming (October 6). I'm good on that front. I never had a problem fighting here, there or anywhere. I don't give a damn. Make me an offer, put the ink to paper, so we can do this."

And more importantly, show up on fight night.

"All I want are real offers. I spent all year watching guys pull out of fights with me for ridiculous reasons. I'm too tall, I'm left-handed, I train with Buddy McGirt – I mean damn, quit sweating the stat sheet, and just shut up and fight.

"Hopefully Jean Pascal will man up and give me a shot. If not, then whoever else at 168 willing to step up."
