James Metcalf will return to the ring next month after a spell on the sidelines.

The Commonwealth super-welterweight champion is undefeated in 20 fights and was last in action in June last year.

Metcalf, who has 12 quick finishes on his ledger, stopped Jason Welborn to win the vacant rainbow belt at the First Direct Arena in Leeds in his last fight and was forced out for a period in the aftermath to repair a troublesome hand injury.

But ‘Kid Shamrock’ is now said to be raring to go for when he gets back between the ropes on February 28.

The show will take place at Grand Central Hall in Liverpool and is being billed ‘Undefeated’. It is set to feature some of Liverpool’s biggest talents, including lightweight Nick Ball, who moved into double figures last year after a stellar four-fight campaign in which only one of the fights went the distance.

Metcalf, who had to have bone taken from his hip during the surgery, is a former WBC International champion in the 154-pound division and has long been tipped for star status.

And he will go into his return on the back of six straight stoppage wins, dating back to April 2017.

The bill will also feature a second outing for Karl Tierney Jr. as well as James Heneghan and Mikey Hedges, all three of whom are managed by Warren Boxing Management, alongside Junior Thompson.

Thompson made a sensational start to his paid venture back in November when he won via a first-round retirement and will be hoping to build on that, under coach Dee Taggart, when he is back with Connor Butler, Andrew Cain and Carly Skelly.

Former Haringey Box Cup winner Jonathan Walsh, ex-ABA senior elite 56kg amateur champion Bradley Strand, middleweight Harry Woods and welterweight Jack McKinlay complete the line-up, while there will be a debut outing for former Knowsley Vale amateur Luke Brough and a return for 23-year-old Meshech Speare, who is set to have five fights this year.
