WBO super featherweight champion Jamel Herring wins by DQ but had a big edge in landed punches as he outlanded Jonathan Oquendo 132-70 in punches landed. Herring landed 39% of his power punches (121/311). Herring outlanded Oquendo in all eight rounds.

MGM Grand Conference Center, Las Vegas - WBO super featherweight champion Jamel Herring (22-2, 10 KOs) retained his title with an eight round disqualification over Jonathan Oquendo (31-7, 19 KOs).

The first two rounds were rough as Oquendo was on the inside and was making things tough for the champion. During the third round, Herring landed a big uppercut that sent Oquendo down. Oquendo was not that hurt, with Herring controlling the rest of the round.

Herring was dominating the fourth as Oquendo was just charging in. The face of Oquendo was swelling up and showing damage as he was being outboxed in the fifth. There was a clash of heads to open up a bad cut above the right eye of Herring. Oquendo lost a point as the head clash was deemed intentional.

Oquendo came out firing to the body of Herring in the sixth. He continued to come inside and made it a tough fight. Things were rough for Herring in the seventh and it continued to be rough in the eight.

At the end of the eight, Herring said he couldn't see from the injured eye that was cut from the intentional head clash. The fight was stopped and they disqualified Oquendo due to injury being from an intentional foul.
