When Jamel Herring last fought in September 2020, a headbutt caused a cut on the outside of Herring’s right eye that led to a premature stoppage.

Although Herring was able to keep Carl Frampton at distance with his jab and timely power punches, Frampton was able to draw blood by opening a cut on the same spot outside of Herring’s right eye during the fourth round.

Seeking to capitalize on the blood, Frampton threw caution to the wind and walked into a straight left that put him down on the canvas in the fifth round.

Herring landed an uppercut early in the sixth round that put Frampton down again. Frampton got up, but a barrage of power punches forced his corner to throw in the towel. For the fight, Herring landed 66 of 267 punches, 55 of them power shots, while Frampton landed 39 of 226 punches, 35 of them power shots.
