GLENDALE, Arizona – It took him four-plus rounds, but Jeremiah Milton finally caught Quintin Sumpter with the type of punches that ended their heavyweight fight Saturday night on the Jake Paul-Anderson Silva undercard at Desert Diamond Arena.

Las Vegas’ Milton (7-0, 6 KOs) staggered the previously unbeaten Sumpter with a right hand 23 seconds into the fifth round. Milton followed up with a right-left-right combination that knocked Sumpter into the ropes and then to his gloves and knees 30 seconds into the fifth round.

Sumpter (5-1, 4 KOs), of Pittsfield, Massachusetts, reached his feet before referee Wes Melton counted to 10. Melton halted their scheduled six-rounder, however, because Sumpter stumbled into the ropes.

The official time of the stoppage was 39 seconds of the fifth round.

Milton was the aggressor throughout their bout, but Sumpter’s showboating and reluctance to engage often drew boos from the crowd. He occasionally landed a punch and celebrated by taunting Milton, who mocked Sumpter’s antics after he won by technical knockout.

Two bouts before Milton’s win, Danny Flores punctuated an impressive performance by stopping Edgar Ortiz Jr. early in the sixth round of their junior featherweight fight in Flores’ hometown.

Flores unloaded a barrage of power punches on Ortiz as soon as the sixth round started. An Arizona Boxing & MMA Commission official instructed referee Tony Zaino to halt the action, 30 seconds into the sixth round, soon after one of Flores’ punches staggered Ortiz.

Glendale’s Flores (11-0, 3 KOs), who had his way with Ortiz from the end of the third round until their scheduled six-rounder ended, produced his first knockout in five fights. Phoenix’s Ortiz (8-4-2, 4 KOs) is 1-3-1 in his past five fights.

Earlier Saturday, another Glendale native, Adrian Rodriguez shut out Dominique Griffin on all three scorecards in a four-round featherweight fight.

Rodriguez (3-0, 2 KOs), who won 40-36 on each card, went the distance for the first time as a pro. Griffin, of Irving, Texas, slipped to 4-2-1 (2 KOs).

In the first fight Saturday, Los Angeles’ Eliezer Silva dropped and stopped Anthony Hannah in the second round of their four-round middleweight match. Their bout was stopped soon after Hannah reached his feet from the knockdown.

Silva improved to 2-0 and recorded his first knockout. Hannah (3-5, 2 KOs), of Augusta, Georgia, has lost four fights in row, three straight by knockout.
