Jake Paul isn’t concerned with “the haters” who’ve dismissed him as some sort of carnival act.

Paul realizes that his detractors don’t like that he has become a boxer marketable enough to headline a pay-per-view event, even though he has a limited amount of experience in the sport. The polarizing influencer does take exception to those that refer to him as a “celebrity boxer,” as if he isn’t putting in the requisite hard work to succeed in the ring.

The 24-year-old Paul expressed his dislike for being branded a “celebrity boxer” during a recent press conference to promote his eight-round boxing match Saturday night against former UFC fighter Ben Askren. The Paul-Askren cruiserweight bout will headline a Triller Fight Club pay-per-view show at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta (9 p.m. ET; $49.99).

“I’m a bit confused when people talk about celebrity boxing because there’s no such thing as celebrity boxing,” Paul said. “I’m the only celebrity that’s boxing, so people like to write articles about it. Like I’m the only one that’s doing it, so it doesn’t really make sense to me. But really, at the end of the day, this isn’t celebrity boxing. I am a celebrity who is boxing, yes, but I’m a real fighter. I’ve shown that. I’m 3-0, three KOs, 2-0 as a professional, with two KOs. But I’m the only celebrity or influencer that’s fought in like the past two years. So, I’m really the only one doing it, so.”

Askren asked if his older brother, Logan Paul, doesn’t count as a celebrity who’s boxing.

“He hasn’t fought in two years, if you paid attention closely to what I was saying,” Jake Paul said. “And look, Logan’s great. He’s a celebrity who’s boxing. But at the end of the day, again, Logan is a real fighter who would whup on a lot of guys.”

Jake Paul didn’t hesitate when Askren asked which Paul brother is the better boxer.

“Me, hands down,” Jake Paul said. “That’s why I’m 3-0, three KOs. He’s 0-1-1.”

Jake Paul (2-0, 2 KOs), of Calabasas, California, brutally knocked out former NBA point guard Nate Robinson in the second round of his most recent fight. That cruiserweight contest was part of the Mike Tyson-Roy Jones Jr. undercard November 28 at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

The provocative Paul stopped AnEson Gib in the first round of their pro debuts 14 months ago at Meridian at Island Gardens in Miami.

Logan Paul lost his only professional fight to social media rival Olajide Olatunji, also known as “KSI,” who won a six-round split decision in November 2019 at Staples Center.

The 36-year-old Askren, of Hartland, Wisconsin, will participate in his first professional boxing match Saturday night. The onetime college wrestling standout is a former MMA welterweight champion in both Bellator and ONE Championship.
