Last Friday, Dejan Zavec beat Isaac Hlathswayo and captured IBF welterweight title  and became the first boxing world champion from Slovenia. This win set his much anticipated rematch against mandatory challenger Rafal Jackiewicz. The clash between two best European welterweights is expected to happen late February or early March 2010 in Slovenia, Poland or Germany.

"I did not expect Dejan to win this fight but I'm happy for him. I could not imagine an easier fight for me in a title shot. I don't care if this will take place in Poland or Slovenia. I will just dominate him and win world championship." - said Jackiewicz who already beat Zavec one year ago for the European weltwerweight title.

The Pole defended his title then via a split decision win in very evenly fought match which could have gone either way. Jackiewicz was struggling to make weight before that fight and confessed later that he underestimated the fighter from Slovenia. The Polish number one welterweight made also some comments about a press statement that was published by Joe DeGaurdia's Star Boxing, through the internet, about his fight with Delvin Rodriguez. The American promoter said that Jackiewicz's win was controversial and he plans to fill a protest to IBF against unanimous decision for Polish fighter.

"The best word to desribe this statement is 'funny'. Everybody who knows something about boxing scored it for me. They gave some numbers about the punches thrown and landed in this fight which are just pathetic. They said he threw over 1000 punches in this fight. Even if he did, at least 900 of them were jabs and none of them landed throughout the whole 12 rounds. I did not waste any punches in this fight and even they claimed that I was landing with almost 50% precision. I can't even find accurate words to comment about this." - said Jackiewicz.
