After a long layoff, Ivan Golub will make his long-awaited return to the ring.

Golub will square off against journeyman Luis Eduardo Flores in an eight-round bout tonight at the Caribe Royale Orlando in Orlando, Florida, promoter Lou DiBella confirmed to BoxingScene Friday afternoon.

“Saturday is just a ‘get the rust off’ kind of fight,” DiBella told BoxingScene. “Ivan’s had a long layoff.”

The 32-year-old Golub (18-1, 14 knockouts), who is originally from the Ukraine and now resides in Brooklyn, New York, last fought in November 2019, knocking out Colombia’s Janer Gonzalez in the final round of a 10-round bout. The victory over Gonzalez took place three and a half months after Golub stopped Joaquim Carneiro in round 5.

Golub has won his last five bouts since a disputed decision loss to Jamontay Clark in June 2017. While he has fought most of his fights at welterweight, DiBella told Boxingscene that it is still up in the air as to whether Golub will continue campaigning as a welterweight or move up to 154 pounds.

“(We are) figuring that out right now,” said DiBella.

Florez (25-17, 21 KOs), who resides in Puerto Libertador, Colombia, was stopped in round 6 of his last bout on October 16 by Mexico’s Jose Miguel Borrego. The 33-year-old has lost eight of his last nine bouts, six of them by knockout.

Also fighting on the One For All Promotions card is unbeaten middleweight prospect Lorenzo Simpson (9-0, 5 KOs) of Baltimore, Maryland. The southpaw fighter will face veteran Luis Alberto Vera in an eight-round bout.

Simpson, who goes by the nickname ’Truck,’ overcame a knockdown in round 5 to defeat Sonny Duversonne by unanimous decision in a clash of unbeaten fighters.

Vera (10-17-2, 1 KO) has lost his last four bouts, all by knockout. The 33-year-old has fought all but one of his previous fights outside his native Argentina.

In featherweight action, Ramon Cardenas (18-1, 9 KOs) of San Antonio, Texas, who has won his last six bouts since losing to Danny Flores in April 2017,  will square off against Angel Antonio Contreras in an eight-round bout.

Contreras (10-3-1, 6 KOs), who resides in Monterrey, Mexico, lost by unanimous decision to unbeaten prospect Neslan Machado in his last bout on December 4.

Also in action Saturday night will be unbeaten junior welterweight Alex Vargas of Bellport, New York.

Vargas (9-0, 3 KOs) will face Agua Prieta, Mexico’s Jorge Alberto Careaga (4-4) in a six-round bout.
