Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas - Former super welterweight champion Ishe Smith (29-8) notched a majority decision victory over Frank Galarza (17-2-2) that seemed wider than two of the scores indicated. Smith found success early, dropping Galarza at the end of the second. The action slowed in the third but the fighters closed the fourth with a big exchange just before the bell sounded. The fifth ended with Smith landing multiple punches including two after the round ended.

Galarza found some success working the body in the sixth but didn't have the output or accuracy to sustain his momentum. Smith continued to be the more aggressive fighter with the heavier hands.

With a lead built, Smith was content to box from the outside as Galarza became more aggressive. Galarza had success in spurts but couldn't maintain any momentum. Galarza became desperate in the tenth and final round, swinging wildly while Smith stayed back and countered. A big right hand to the body by Smith late in the round punctuated his victory. The final scores were a head scratching 95-95 96-93 and 95-94.

"I had to dig deep. This was the first time in a very long time I had to dig deep," said Smith of his victory. "They kept telling me in my corner that its was close. He came to win, but in the end I got the victory."

"Young guys feel like I'm old. They like to apply pressure, but I set him up with the traps. I got comfortable in the middle rounds he turned it up a gear and applied pressure I wasn't ready for," continued Smith. "It took me a round or two to get adjusted, once I got adjusted I thought I did real well and was able to close the show. I was surprised in the 95-95 and 95-94, I was thinking wow if I didn't get that knockdown it may have swayed his way for the victory.

"Training with the best like Floyd, Bernard Hopkins, it has allowed me to learn. I have learned so much from the greatest fighter in the world, and pick up something from each of them. I am thankful I was able to pick up a lot along the way in my career."

Galarza felt as though he had to do much more to get the win.

"I'm in his hometown, Vegas, its his promotion. Those little slip ups were going to cost me the fight. I had to be active, be in his chest, stay busy. There were moments where I was doing that, but I let some of it go at times.  I think the knockdown made me want to press on the gas and start pushing. He is awkward. He's wide. He's all over the place and I didn't want to get hit with any silly punches. It happens. It's one of those things where we have to go back to the drawing board and we will be back at it again," Galarza said.

In the co-featured fight, Justin Deloach (15-1) took another step towards contender status with a ten round unanimous decision victory over Domonique Dolton (17-0-1).  The scores were 96-94, 98-92 and 99-91.

Deloach started off strong with a dominant first round. Super middleweight contender J'Leon Love could be heard barking instructions to fellow Michigan native Dalton in the second while Deloach would yell, "you can't help him J'Leon!" In response.

Dolton had a better third round as he was able to touch up Deloach and make it a rougher fight. He landed a several hard shots in the fourth round as he took control of the fight.

The momentum swung again in the fifth as the fighters appeared to clash heads and blood began to stream from Dolton's nose which appeared to be broken.

Both fighters connect rates fell in the sixth and seventh. Deloach was content to sit back and counter while Dolton, with his face a mess, pressed the action.

Dolton landed some big shots in the eighth to get back in the fight. He stayed on the inside in what was his best round of the fight.

Deloach stormed out in the ninth landing big shots including his right uppercut that he landed on several occasions throughout the contest. Both fighters came out swinging with bad intentions to open up the tenth and final round. After the in rial flurry, Deloach composed himself and started boxing and moving to preserve the victory.
