Isaac Chamberlain, has been named as the mandatory challenger for the European title, currently held by Poland’s Michal Cieslak.

Chamberlain (16-2, 8 KO’s) took the British and Commonwealth belts from former champion, Mikael Lawal, in October, comprehensively outpointing the previously unbeaten Lawal.

Cieslak (25-2, 19 KO’s) successfully defended his title against Northern Ireland’s Tommy McCarthy last month, stopping the former European champion in seven rounds. Since coming up just short in a spirited challenge for Lawrence Okolie’s WBO cruiserweight title in 2020, the Pole has stopped his last four opponents and will see Chamberlain as the final obstacle between he and another world title fight.

The only losses on Chamberlain’s record are decision defeats to current WBO cruiserweight champion, Chris Billam-Smith and former champion, Okolie. If the 29 year old Londoner can get past Cieslak, it seems increasingly likely that he will get the opportunity to even the score with at least one of his rivals.

The EBU issued a statement declaring that unless a deal can be agreed beforehand, purse bids for the contest will be opened on Thursday January 4th.
