World Boxing Council (WBC) flyweight world champion Ibeth Zamora will make the third defense of her crown against Olympian Marlen Esparza, at a location to be determined in the United States.

'La Guerrera Otomi ' (32-6, 12 KO's) will make her first presentation in the country, where she intends to demonstrate the power of her fists that have led her to be world champion in three divisions: strawweight, junior flyweight and flyweight.

According to Zamora, the fight will happen on a date in April - as part of a card being promoted by Golden Boy Promotions.

"I am excited because it is the opportunity that we were waiting for, this has also been achieved thanks to MTK. They have been able to secure this fight and the location in the United States, which is an important challenge to be able to put women's boxing on top. I have been looking for this opportunity so that fans who watch boxing outside of Mexico can see what Ibeth Zamora can do," Zamora said.

"Everyone knows that my style of boxing is to come forward and look for the fight. We are going against Marlen who is a very technical boxer but I am also happy because we are going in the right direction in the pursuit of pay equity. This fight is going to be done by Golden Boy. And for women's boxing in the smaller weights, this is a good step to be on this card. It will definitely be important to know what is next for us."

Zamora will enter this battle after defending her title, last December, against Gabriela Sanchez, whom she defeated by unanimous decision. While Esparza, winner of the 2020 WBC Comeback of the Year award, will return after banking a unanimous decision victory over Sulem Urbina last October.

"It's a fight that I've been looking for, ever since I saw her at junior flyweight and then she climbed to flyweight I said 'I hope a fight with her can be made' and now it will be in April. I wanted to box with Marlen due to her style, she was an Olympic medalist and it will show me how far my abilities can go," Zamora said.
