According to promoter Ben Shalom of BOXXER, heavyweight contender Hughie Fury is looking for a showdown with veteran Chris Arreola in 2022.

Last month, the 27-year-old Fury broke down and stopped the usually durable Christian Hammer.

Back in May, Arreola turned back the clock when he rocked and dropped former champion Andy Ruiz in a twelve round points loss.

Arreola has been turned back in three world title challenges, which saw him lose bouts against Deontay Wilder, Vitali Klitschko and Bermane Stiverne.

"[His father and trainer] Peter Fury wants Arreola and we think that's a great fight," BOXXER promoter Shalom told Sky Sports.

"Arreola did really well against Andy Ruiz Jr. We think it's time for Hughie to step up after an impressive win over Hammer. There are a lot of potential opponents being chucked around. You will see him in big fights. You will see him fight an American next, and we are hoping for Arreola."

Last week, Peter Fury informed Sky Sports that his fighter was looking to face an opponent of "high caliber" next.

Another boxer that Hughie would like to face next year is British veteran Derek Chisora, who next month will collide with Joseph Parker in a rematch.

"We have our eye on Derek Chisora next year for Hughie," Shalom said. "Hughie is just circling around the top 10 in the world.

"He's waiting to fight any of them - he would fight Dillian Whyte, he would fight Chisora, he would fight Joseph Parker again. He thinks he's got Parker's number."

Fury has now won three fights in a row since losing a twelve round decision to former world champion Alexander Povetkin in August of 2019.
