Houston, TX – Akondaye Fountain twice challenged for world titles, and now she is using her experience in the ring to guide boxing’s next generation with Calm Before the Storm Promotions presenting “Summer Heat Explosion.”

While continuing to train with the aim of fighting for another world title, Akondaye’s focus is shifting towards life outside the ring. Through the years, she has made herself known throughout a network of professional boxers and fight fans. Now with an understanding of how professional boxing operates, from both a fighter’s perspective and as a business venture, Akondaye intends to promote fighters with the same fire she used to climb up the professional ranks, providing them with the opportunity to rise to the top of their sport.

Calm Before the Storm Promotions will host their 3rd professional boxing card Thursday, August 4, 2011 at: Rio Grande Hall, 10505 Telephone Rd., Houston, TX 77075

The event will showcase the professional boxing debuts of several Houston-area amateur standouts. Willie Savannah guided the career of Lightweight Champion Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz, and now his latest protégés Juan “Pancho” Copado & Damazo Tello will enter into the pro ranks. As will seventeen year old sensation Luis Zarazua from the Rio Grande Valley, who has already gotten the attention of Bob Arum’s Top Rank Promotions.

Also in attendance will be boxers from Ronnie Shields’ stable including:

Kermit Cintron, Mike Lee, Edwin Rodriguez, Danny O’Connor, Lanard Lane, Jermell & Jermall Charlo.

From Houston’s eastside Rogelio De la Torre (5-0, 3 KOs) and “Awesome” Ashley Alvarado (3-0, 2 KOs) will also be on the show. De la Torre’s never been in a boring fight, pro or am, and Alvarado is working her way through the flyweight division challenging all female fighters across the southwest. She faces-off with Brandi Alvarado, a kickboxing champ from New Mexico.

Houston Golden Gloves champion Bay City’s Terrance Woods (8-2, 6 KOs) will be featured on the card. Before professional boxing, Woods was an elite Track & Field athlete winning a Bronze medal in the High Jump at the 2003 Pan American Games.
