Hosea Burton will still see action next weekend.

The British light-heavyweight champion looked set to be out until further notice after his next fight fell out of bed last week.

But Burton (16-0, 7 KOs), who was scheduled for 12 rounds in a defence of his crown against Tony Dodson before the challenger snapped his achilles, is still down to box on May 29, exclusively live on Sky Sports.

His showdown with Dodson (32-8-1, 15 KOs) was meant to act as part of the supporting cast to Tony Bellew’s clash against Ilunga Makabu for the vacant WBC cruiserweight title at Goodison Park.

And thankfully, it has been confirmed that Burton –– who had a three-round stoppage in Manchester earlier this month –– would still have a place on the bill alongside three of his gym-mates.

The Joe Gallagher-trained man, 27, will box on the bill as well as Paul, Callum and Stephen Smith, who are also trained by the Trainer of the Year.

Paul Smith fights for the second time in just over three weeks as he continues his comeback from an 11-month hiatus, while Callum is in over eight rounds in a marking time outing before fighting for the WBC super-middleweight world title, for which he is mandatory, and Stephen returns from his failed world title challenge last month in a clash for the vacant WBC Silver super-featherweight title against well-known Argentine Daniel Brizuela.

Elsewhere, Sean ‘Masher’ Dodd faces Pasquale di Silvio for the vacant WBC International lightweight title and Tom Farrell and Kofi Yates clash in an eliminator for the English super-lightweight title.

Meanwhile, there’s a host of local talents getting a huge opportunity to impress on the big stage in the shape of James Metcalf, Ged Carroll, Steve Brogan, Craig Glover and Scott Fitzgerald, while there is action for Chester super-bantamweight Paul Economides and Merseyside heavyweight favourite David Price is back in action in his home city for the first time in almost three years.

Boxing Scene understands that Burton’s fight will be over six or eight rounds ahead of him making a mandatory defence of his Lonsdale belt against Kevin Hooper (19-3, 4 KOs) later on in the year.
