Hector Luis Garcia (16-0) is counting down the days until his showdown against Gervonta 'Tank' Davis (27-0).  The fight will headline a Showtime pay-per-view that takes place in Washington DC.

The 31-year-old Dominican Republic native had a breakout 2022.  He scored a major upset over the then unbeaten Chris Colbert in February and followed that performance up with an August victory over Roger Gutierrez to capture the WBA super featherweight title.

Garcia believes that he hasn’t reached his peak yet and promises to defy the odds again against Davis.

“People have written me off before.  This isn’t anything new,” Garcia told BoxingScene.com after being informed of the betting odds.  BETMGM has Garcia listed as a 16-1 underdog.

A tentative agreement has already been made to pit Davis against longtime nemesis Ryan Garcia in April - but Garcia insists that it will be him facing Ryan next.

“Ryan Garcia is next.  Once I take care of Tank, I will get revenge for my countryman Javier Fortuna (who was stopped by Ryan in July).  He was already done when Ryan beat him. I am going to make him pay for elderly abuse,” said Garcia.

“I will give him a lesson on Dominican boxing.  Ryan does more talking than boxing.  If he spent half as much time in the gym as he does talking, he would be Floyd Mayweather, Muhammad Ali and Roberto Duran wrapped into one.”

The 2016 Dominican Olympian knows Davis is a great fighter but insists that he is up to the task. He believes his skill level is on par with Davis, who like himself, is also a southpaw.

“Davis is very talented. He is a very good fighter but skill for skill I am as good or better than him in every category,” said Garcia.
