Just a few weeks have passed and Héctor Luis García (15-0) is still basking in his career best win over top unbeaten contender Chris Colbert (16-1). The Showtime televised fight took place at the Cosmopolitan Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

Colbert was listed as high as a 50-1 favorite for the Showtime main event at some sports books over the late replacement for Roger Gutierrez, The Venezuelan pulled out of the fight after testing positive for COVID-19.

By winning the fight, García becomes the mandatory challenger for Gutierrez who holds the WBA super featherweight title.

If negotiations for the fight are smooth, García believes the fight will happen sooner rather than later.

“I believe the most for sure time for that fight to take place is in the month of May,” said Garcia.

The 30-year-old García dominated Colbert in their contest, dropping him in the 7th round. The Dominican Republic native was able to land just about any shot he threw.

He is just as confident that he can beat Gutierrez.

“We have to see what happens in the fight and how he comes out because styles makes fights. I fight based off of how my opponent is fighting and from there I begin to implement my tactics. That is the main key to the fight,” Garcia told BoxingScene.com.
