Daniel Dubois (20-2, 19KOs) has added former professional fighter Kieran Farrell to his training team. The heavyweight contender confirmed the news on social media, with a post showing himself alongside Farrell.

Farrell, a former Central Area lightweight champion, was forced to cut short his professional career following an English lightweight title battle with Anthony Crolla in December 2012.

Farrell sustained severe head injuries and neurosurgeons told the then-promising fighter that his career had to be curtailed at the age of 22. At the time of his enforced retirement, Farrell held a professional record of 14 wins against one loss, with three wins coming by way of stoppage.

Following retirement, Farrell has remained an ever-present figure within boxing circles in the North West of England. He promotes his own British Boxing Board of Control licensed events and manages and trains a stable of fighters based at the People’s Gym in Heywood, Manchester.

Dubois will serve as the highest-profile fighter Farrell has worked alongside.

It remains to be confirmed what role Farrell will play with Dubois. There are no suggestions of a split between Dubois and his current trainer Don Charles.

“A newly added member to Daniel’s team @kieran_farrell_bem,” a post on Dubois’s Instagram read. Farrell responded to the post by commenting, “[It’s a] pleasure to be working with @dynamite_daniel_dubois & team.”

Farrell, 33, continues to learn his craft as a trainer and as a manager, Farrell’s fighters have been featured on several Matchroom, Queensberry, and Wasserman [formally Sauerland] events.
