Promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom has revealed that he has made an offer to British Olympian Joshua Buatsi to face WBA light heavyweight world champion Dmitry Bivol.

Buatsi is ranked as the number two contender with the WBA and said he was ready to face Bivol after a dominant win over Craig Richards in May. Bivol also holds a decision win over Richards.

Also in the month of May, Bivol shocked the world by handing heavy favorite Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez just his second career defeat with a clear unanimous decision victory.

Bivol is without a scheduled opponent for the fall, after the Mexican superstar failed to exercise an immediate rematch clause and instead opted to face Gennadiy Golovkin in a trilogy clash on September 17.

Although a Canelo vs. Bivol rematch is targeted to take place in May of 2023 - should Canelo beat Golovkin, Hearn has made an offer to Buatsi to face the 31-year-old champion next.

Bivol does not have a problem with traveling over to the UK for a defense against Buatsi

“We want Buatsi to fight Bivol,” Hearn told Pro Boxing Fans.

“We’ve made an offer now to Buatsi to fight Bivol, which we want to make sure he’s happy with and hopefully we can make that fight.

“It’s not done yet, it’s not signed, but we’re seeing if we can make the numbers work.”
