On October 22nd in Birmingham, there was a big shocker when huge underdog Craig Cunningham dropped and stopped undefeated Olympic medal winner Anthony Ogogo in the eight round.

After the fight it was revealed that Ogogo was unable to continue due to a fractured orbital bone.

Promoter Barry Hearn of Matchroom Sport wants the British Boxing Board of Control to investigate the circumstances of Ogogo's loss - because reports have surfaced that Ogogo may have entered the fight with a pre-existing injury that was further worsened during the action. He began to experience vision problems when his corner pulled him out in the eight.

Coming out of the 2012 Olympic games with a bronze medal, Ogogo was seen as having the potential to become a rising star but his development has been plagued by a number of injuries. The boxer is co-promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and Sauerland Event.

Ogogo spent a year out with an Achilles tendon injury in 2014 and then dislocated his shoulder in his comeback fight. He will now have to recover from the orbital bone fracture, which is reportedly quite serious.

Hearn is upset with the incoming reports of Ogogo possibly entering that fight with a bad eye, because the outcome could have been a lot worse if true.

"The boxing board will want to get to the bottom of this situation because it's not good for boxing and it's not good for the fighter," Hearn said to BBC Radio Suffolk. "It's a really dangerous injury and something you don't play Russian roulette with in your own career.

"Anthony is a talented fighter. It's not the end of his career, but it very much depends on his own resourcefulness to continue and achieve his dreams. There's no doubt it's a huge setback, Anthony was a big favourite to win that fight."
