Promoter Eddie Hearn said the super featherweight fight between 12-1 (1 KO) Aqib Fiaz and 19-11-2 (1 KO) Kane Baker was called off after the Matchroom boss had been made aware of irregular betting activity.

Hearn told Boxing News that after speaking to his Matchroom colleagues, the gambling commission, Matchroom’s legal team and the British Boxing Board of Control, he made a decision to call the fight off.

Fiaz-Baker had been due to take place at the Resorts World Arena in Birmingham on the undercard of the European middleweight title fight between Tyler Denny and Felix Cash.

The British Boxing Board of Control will now investigate the circumstances and Hearn said the Board had backed his decision but the promoter couldn’t say much more, “Because in reality the truth will come out and we will find out what really went on.”

“It’s the first time I’ve ever dealt with anything like this in 15 years,” said Hearn.

Fiaz posted an Instagram story late Saturday night that said: “Tonight’s fight was cancelled due to a situation I was unaware of and had no involvement in. There is an ongoing investigation and I have been advised to make no comments at this time.”
