Eddie Hearn thinks the onus is on Amanda Serrano to call for a rematch with Katie Taylor.

The New York-based Puerto Rican and Ireland’s Taylor traded punches for 10 rounds in their highly regarded undisputed women’s lightweight championship bout at Madison Square Garden in April. Their tense slugfest ended with Taylor winning a razor close split decision and had much of the boxing world riveted.

The fight had ebbs and flows, and at one point it appeared that Serrano was on the verge of stopping Taylor. But Taylor was able to rally in the last rounds. Many observers believed Serrano had done enough to win.

Given the dramatic appeal of the fight and the career paydays it netted for both fighters, Hearn, who promoted the bout, was quick to offer his support for an immediate rematch in Taylor’s hometown of Ireland. Yet the parties could not agree to one. Hearn subsequently said the reason had to do with money and that Team Serrano was not particularly interested in traveling to Ireland for the rematch.

In a recent interview, Hearn said he finds it curious that Serrano (42-2-1, 30 KOs) is not “actively seeking” a rematch with Taylor (21-0, 6 KOs). The seven-division titlist is currently preparing to take on Brenda Carabajal on Aug. 6 at Madison Square Garden on the undercard of the Jake Paul-Hasim Rahman Jr. cruiserweight bout on Showtime Pay-Per-View.

“It’s the biggest fight in women’s boxing,” Hearn said on The DAZN Boxing Show. “But no disrespect to Amanda Serrano, she should be actively seeking that rematch. Like if you lose a split, in one of the greatest fights of all time, you’d like to think that you’d chase the rematch. But she’s not really chasing the rematch.

“But look, let her do her thing on August sixth. Katie will have another fight, probably in October, and hopefully [they fight again].”
