Promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom is backing Youtuber turned boxer, Jake Paul, to defeat Tommy Fury if a fight comes together in the coming in the coming months.

Earlier this week, Paul (5-0, 4 KOs) announced that he was returning to the ring on August 6th at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Showtime Pay-Per-View will carry the event.

The opponent was not revealed, but many insiders believe the frontrunner is Fury, who is the younger brother of WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

Hearn does not view either man as being a good fighter, but he feels Paul should come out on top.

"It's a 50-50 fight. It's a funny one because it's terrible for Tommy Fury if he can't beat Jake Paul, but I don't think he can beat Jake Paul," Hearn told JOE.

"Jake Paul didn't like the fact that I said he was average, but they are both average. I don't mean that disrespectfully and by the way, there are a lot of average boxers. Average is not bad and it's not good.

"So I said to Jake Paul, 'I actually think that's a compliment for you, I'm not saying you're a terrible boxer I'm just saying you're not very good'. The same advice to Tommy Fury so in that case, it's a 50-50 fight in that respect."

Paul and Fury were initially scheduled to fight last December. In the weeks leading up to the fight, Fury withdrew with a training injury. He was replaced by former UFC champion Tyron Woodley, who Paul brutally knocked out with one punch.

Fury was in action back in April, when he picked up an eight round decision over Daniel Bocianski at Wembley Stadium in London. Older brother Tyson headlined the card and knocked out mandatory challenger Dillian Whyte.
