Promoter Eddie Hearn believes Dmitry Bivol is Canelo Alvarez's toughest opponent since Floyd Mayweather.

Canelo suffered his sole career defeat back in 2013, when he was easily outboxed over twelve rounds by Mayweather.

On May 7th at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Canelo will rise back up to 175-pounds to challenge the unbeaten Bivol for t6he WBA light heavyweight crown.

Should Canelo win, he will then move forward with a September trilogy showdown against Gennadiy Golovkin.

However, Hearn is not even willing to discuss the Canelo-Golovkin trilogy - because the veteran promoter views Bivol (19-0, 11KOs) as a very dangerous opponent.

While some views WBC/IBF champion Artur Beterbiev as the king of 175 - Hearn disagrees. He believes Bivol, from top to bottom, is a better fighter who is still in the prime of his career.

“I’ve got to tell you, I’m not even talking about Canelo Alvarez against GGG until this Bivol fight is over,” Hearn said to the DAZN Boxing Show. “I saw clips of Bivol. He’s looking sensational on the pads — his footwork, his movement, his punching power. I’m telling you now; this may be the toughest fight of Canelo Alvarez’s career outside of Floyd Mayweather. This is a really tough fight."

“I think if you’re talking about destruction and power, Beterbiev is the guy. If you’re talking about technical ability mixed with a little bit of punch power, smartness, freshness, you’re talking about Dmitry Bivol. Beterbiev is old. There were signs against Callum Johnson, against these guys. When have you seen Dmitry Bivol hurt in a fight? When have you seen Dmitry Bivol really look like he might lose a fight? Never. How good is Dmitry Bivol? We’re gonna find out.”
