HBO and Showtime both received favorable news upon the announcement of nominees for the 36th Annual Sports Emmy Awards on Wednesday.

HBO was nominated for 12 Sports Emmys—including three boxing-related entries. SHOWTIME earned a network-best nine nominations, matching HBO's total of three boxing-specific submissions. 

HBO Boxing programming was nominated for Outstanding Camera Work (24/7: Cotto/Martinez); Outstanding Live Event/Audio/Sound (HBO Boxing); and Outstanding Sports Documentary Series (24/7).

All three of Showtime's boxing entries came via its All Access reality series. The series as a whole was nominated for Outstanding Sports Documentary Series and Long Form Editing, while

was nominated for Outstanding Edited Sports Coverage.

“The 36th Sports Emmy Awards encompassed a record-setting number of entries across multiple categories,” said Steve Ulrich, Senior Vice President of the Sports Emmy Awards. “The level of quality from those entries was truly inspiring and it provided our judges with an embarrassment of riches in determining this year’s nominees.”

Showtime brought home the only boxing-related Emmy among any network during last year's awards show.

earned top honors in the Outstanding Edited Sports Coverage category.

HBO also received three boxing-specific nominations during the 35th Annual Sports Emmy Awards last year, none of which were bestowed with a sports Emmy. 

The official awards ceremony to take place Tuesday, May 5 at Frederick P. Rose Hall at Time Warner Center in New York City. George Bodenheimer— former president of ESPN Inc.—will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Last year’s honoree was TV mogul Ted Turner. 

“The quality of sports television continues to shine as the coverage available to the consumer in multiple formats grows exponentially,” said Bob Mauro, president of NATAS. “With ESPN’s George Bodenheimer as our well-deserved lifetime achievement honoree and almost 200 nominees vying for the prestigious Emmy Award, this year’s gala promises to be an exciting night for NATAS and the world of sports telecasting.”
