WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (25-1, 23 KOs) will not find himself without an opponent, as unbeaten 2004 Olympic gold medal winner Alexander Povetkin (21-0, 15 KOs) is waiting sidelines to fight him. If the British Boxing Board does not approve Ruslan Chagaev, the WBA mandatory, as an opponent for Haye on May 21 in England, then Povetkin, WBA #2, is standing by and ready to fight. Chagaev's battle with Hepatitis B may prevent him from being able to box in England.

Povetkin's promoter, Kalle Sauerland, ensure that his fighter is ready for such a great challenge.

"At the moment we are waiting for the decision of the BBBC [British Boxing Board of Control], and the WBA - on the Haye fight. If it turns out that the fight [with Chagaev] will not be accepted, we will try to get Povetkin as the opponent for David. In my view, Alexander is ready to fight for the world championship. He is a very capable and determined boxer," said Sauerland.
