Even a week after Floyd Mayweather and Marcos Maidana fought in an exciting Welterweight unification bout, fighters are still weighing in their opinions on the match. Mayweather was tested more than he has been in recent fights as a relentless Maidana applied constant pressure for 12 rounds. Mayweather however still prevailed as he added another title to his ledger and kept his undefeated record intact with a majority decision victory.

Heavyweight David Haye was ringside for the fight and was asked to give his take on the bout.

“I thought Mayweather boxed brilliantly. I thought Maidana fought a great fight; he had a great game plan. I loved the angle he was throwing his right hand. He wasn’t throwing it at his shoulder [or] at his chin like most people do. He was trying to drop it down on top of Mayweather’s head. That was a great move” said Haye.

“I’ve always said if anyone ever gets Mayweather in a corner don’t try to hit him on the chin because it’s impossible to hit him, he’s too elusive. But hit him on the top of the head, Maidana practiced it and it worked great”.

It was a very physical affair as Maidana looked to rough up Mayweather and threw punches from all angles and at a high volume. Mayweather on the other hand was more economical but more accurate and increased his offense as the fight went on.

Haye felt Mayweather may have been thrown off a bit by Maidana at first but as always, he adjusted and found a way to win. He also didn’t feel there was much controversy as he saw a clear victory for Floyd.

“It looked like it unsettled Mayweather for a little bit but Mayweather is the pound for pound king for a reason. He adjusted, he found a way to win. He made the distance, he landed the bigger shots and I thought he won the fight pretty clearly. I don’t think there’s a controversy. The judge that had it a draw, I don’t know what he was watching. From ringside where I was sitting, Mayweather won the fight easy. It wasn’t easy, he got caught. He had to earn his 100 million or whatever he earned but he had to earn his money a little bit and it was good to see”.
