Three SA boxers will take on British fighters on a card in Sandton in March.

Showpony Promotions chief Damian Michael has confirmed that Chris van Heerden will defend his IBO welterweight title against Matthew Hatton.

The date and venue must still be announced.

Thabiso Mchunu will fight up-and-coming Dale Miles and SA lightweight champion Tshepang Mohale is to square up against Matty Clarkson.

Mchunu's performances in the Super Eight series attracted much attention. He is now No. 14 on the WBC rankings list and is “one of the hottest properties in SA boxing," Michael said on Thursday.

Miles should be an ideal test of Mchunu's potential.

The main fight, between Van Heerden and Hatton, is likely to be a crowd pleaser. Hatton is a top drawcard in England a group of supporters is expected to accompany him.

"There should be no shortage of local supporters too, with two of the most exciting fighters in the country on view," said Michael.

Adding a little offbeat spice to the card, former All Black flyhalf Carlos Spencer, who has already demonstrated his boxing skills in South Africa, will take on another former rugby player, Andries Human.
