BoxingScene.com understands that the highly anticipated all Scottish clash between Scott Harrison and John Simpson will go ahead as planned in Glasgow’s Kelvin Hall, despite Harrison being sentenced to four years in prison yesterday.

An insider in Harrison’s training camp told us: “The fight is still going ahead as planned on the 1st of December. Steve Williams [who is training Scott in Spain] is in contact with Alex Morrison — Harrison’s manager and promoter— and both are working continually behind the scenes. The fight is still very much on.”

This comes as a ray of good news to the former world champion, who yesterday learned he faces another four years behind bars for his part in an assault back in 2007. Harrison, who was released from prison in September last year after being found guilty of another assault, only returned to the ring in June after a seven year hiatus. So far he remains unbeaten on his comeback trail, having beaten both Gyorgy Mizsei Jr and Joe Elfidh.

Harrison’s father Peter yesterday confirmed that Scott will appeal his sentencing, but a showdown with WBO ‘World’ Lightweight champion Ricky Burns now appears to be some way off.
