In a tremendous presentation, Hanna Gabriel retained her World Boxing Organization (WBO) super welterweight crown with a seventh round knockout of American Melisenda Perez. The rematch was the main event of a card promoted by Sampson Boxing at the newly opened National Stadium in San Jose in Costa Rica. There was a large turnout of fans at the National Stadium.

The fight was intense, but in the seventh round, Gabriel had ruthlessly attacked Perez and battered her. Puerto Rican referee Luis Pabon stepped in to prevent further punishment on Perez, who immediately collapsed due to the intense pace of the fight. The public came in large numbers to celebrate the great triumph of Gabriel in this contest. The knockout came at 1:18 of the seventh, and Gabriel improves her record to 12-0-1 with 8 knockouts, while Perez falls to 7-5-1.

Francisco Valcarcel, president of the WBO, was seated in the front row and he ratified the world title belt of his organziation. Also in this fight, the WBO's event supervisor was Luis Perez of Puerto Rico.
