THE 'British Tommy Hearns’ Hamzah Sheeraz produced a punch-perfect display to sweep aside previously undefeated Dmytro Mytrofanov in just three minutes and 35 seconds.

It had been suggested that Mytrofanov would represent the toughest test of Sheeraz’s career to date and could cause problems for the Englishman.

But the 24-year-old made a mockery of those predictions by dropping Mytrofanov four times en route to this stoppage in the second round at the Stadion Wroclaw, Poland.

Sheeraz  made a very sharp start behind his long straight jab, which he speared down with speed and power onto his far shorter opponent. And it was a straight left hand that dropped Mytrofanov first, after just 40 seconds

The Ukrainian rose to his feet in time to beat the count and Sheeraz stayed composed as he continued to stalk his opponent round the ring.

The second knockdown came with a minute left in the first round and it was his long jab that did the damage once more. Again Mytrofanov rose to his feet but he touched down briefly for a third time moments later as Sheeraz poured on the pressure.

It looked like a first round stoppage was coming but Mytrofanov managed to make it until the end of the round. But the finish came after just 35 seconds of the restart when Sheeraz countered a lazy jab with a sharp right hand and the referee waved it off immediately. The official time of the stoppage was 35 seconds of round two.

Sheeraz said: ”I’m here. Hopefully next year I’ll fight for a world title. I’ll just do my thing and leave everything else to my promoter.”

His promoter, Frank Warren, said: “He’s the British Tommy Hearns.

“He’s made a statement tonight, come to another guy’s back garden and done a job. Hamzah is a special fighter, there’s no doubt about it.

“He will win a world title, there’s no doubt about that.”

Earlier, Anauel Ngamissengue pulled off an upset victory when he outworked the 22-0 Fiodor Czerkaszyn to claim a majority decision after eight all-action rounds.
