The World Boxing Council's annual convention is just getting started in Kiev, Ukraine.

Every year, countless names from boxing's past and present are united at the WBC's week filled festivities.

During the last few days, several fighters have been praising WBC, WBA middleweight world champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez for last month's victory over undefeated Gennady Golovkin.

In a rematch of their controversial draw from September 2017, Canelo won a close twelve round majority decision to hand Golovkin his first career defeat.

This time around, there wasn't a lot of controversy over the outcome - but many feel it was so close and exciting that a third fight if warranted.

Marvelous Marvin Hagler said: "It was an excellent fight [by Canelo]. I thought it was close and probably a draw...but you know what happens in Las Vegas. Canelo's development now depends on what kind of fights he fights. Sometimes you can end your career very early if you get the wrong fight."

Ricky Hatton said: "I'm very impressed with Saul. Several years ago he went the distance with my brother Matthew and he was just a youngster coming through. To see how he's developed and the caliber he's been mixing in is great.  He's always in good fights.  A controversial decision with Gennady Golovkin, but Saúl went straight back in. That's why we love the sport of boxing.

"I think there's room for a trilogy with Golovkin.  The public know they're the most exciting stars in the game."

Amir Khan, who bravely came up in weight to take on Canelo in 2016, said: "I think Saúl is a great fighter. It was amazing to share the ring with him. Triple G was an amazing fight, I respect Saúl a lot and I wish him all the very best.

"Saul is developing and his boxing skills are getting better and better. He's a power puncher, but now he's trying to box more."
