Gurgen Hovhannisyan will still get an opportunity to showcase himself on a huge stage next month.

BoxingScene.com has learned that the gigantic Armenian heavyweight will square off against Ukraine’s Viktor Faust in a 10-round bout on the Errol Spence Jr.-Terence Crawford undercard July 29. Hovhannisyan-Faust will open Showtime’s four-fight pay-per-view broadcast that night from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Hovhannisyan, 25, was scheduled to fight former IBF champion Charles Martin on the Gervonta Davis-Ryan Garcia undercard April 22 at T-Mobile Arena. Their fight was postponed once Hovhannisyan (4-0, 4 KOs) suffered a rib injury while training.

Premier Boxing Champions founder Al Haymon intended to reschedule Hovhannisyan-Martin, but PBC’s plan changed once Martin accepted an even more challenging fight this week with unbeaten knockout artist Jared Anderson. Martin (29-3-1, 26 KOs) agreed on only 11 days’ notice to face Anderson (14-0, 14 KOs) on July 1 in a 10-round main event ESPN will televise from Huntington Center in Anderson’s hometown of Toledo, Ohio.

The 6-foot-7, 275-pound Hovhannisyan will still face the most formidable opponent of his two-year pro career in just his fifth professional fight.

The 31-year-old Faust (11-1, 7 KOs) lost his last bout by eighth-round technical knockout to Cuban prospect Lenier Pero (9-0, 6 KOs). The 6-foot-5, 234-pound Faust was winning that fight on two scorecards, though, when he turned his back on Pero and referee Rafael Ramos stopped their scheduled 10-rounder late in the eighth round February 11 at Alamodome in San Antonio.

Hovhannisyan most recently stopped American Michael Coffie (13-4, 10 KOs) after the sixth round October 15 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The Hovhannisyan-Faust fight will be announced soon, as will the two other Spence-Crawford undercard contests that Showtime will broadcast next month.

Mexican lightweight contender Isaac Cruz (24-2-1, 17 KOs) has already announced that he will fight unbeaten Chicago native Giovanni Cabrera (21-0, 7 KOs) in the 12-round co-feature that’ll immediately precede Spence-Crawford. BoxingScene.com’s Jake Donovan also reported this week that unbeaten junior middleweight contender Jesus Ramos (20-0, 16 KOs), of Casa Grande, Arizona, will oppose Spain’s Sergio Garcia (34-2, 14 KOs) in the other bout Showtime will air as part of the Spence-Crawford undercard.

Showtime also will stream at least two Spence-Crawford undercard fights on its YouTube channel July 29. The matchups for the streamed portion of the undercard haven’t been finalized.

Spence (28-0, 22 KOs), of DeSoto, Texas, and Crawford (39-0, 30 KOs), of Omaha, Nebraska, will fight for Spence’s IBF, WBA and WBC welterweight titles and Crawford’s WBO belt. Crawford, 35, and Spence, 33, will compete to become boxing’s first fully unified welterweight champion of the four-belt era.
