Guadalupe Martinez won again Saturday night.

Martinez successfully defended her WBC junior bantamweight title, defeating Irma Garcia by unanimous decision at the Centro de Convenciones in Tlalnepantla, Mexico.

The southpaw Garcia had to deal with a cut alongside her right side of her eye in the opening round. The 25-year-old Martinez (17-9, 6 knockouts), who resides in Tlalnepantla, was the aggressor throughout most of the fight.

Garcia (18-3-1, 3 KOs) had her moments, but Martinez was effective on the inside, landing the more telling blows.

Scores were 99-91, 98-92, and 97-93 for Martinez, who has now won her last five bouts.

The victory Saturday was Martinez's second successful world title defense. Martinez won the title on May 3, defeating Zulina Munoz by unanimous decision.

In junior bantamweight action, Adrian Curiel (10-0, 3 KOs) won a six round unanimous decision over Alejandro Villasenor (6-2, 2 KOs), who was deducted a point for butting Curiel in the head.

Scores were 60-53, 59-54, and 58-55 for Curiel, who normally campaigns at 109-110 pounds.

Junior middleweight Hector Reyes remained unbeaten, defeating Luis Montelongo by unanimous decision.

Scores were 58-56, 58-56, and 60-54 in favor of Reyes, who improves to 8-0, 5 KOs.

Montelongo, who has lost his last four bouts, drops to 6-6.

The fight card aired live on Azteca TV throughout Mexico and on beIN Sports en Espanol in the United States.
