Adam Booth had trained super middleweight George Groves until a bit before Groves challenged titleholder Carl Froch last year.

Groves lost that bout by a controversial stoppage. There was no controversy in the rematch, which Froch won in May with a one-punch knockout. Booth chatted briefly with BoxingScene.com on July 25 about what he thought.

“It was a lot closer than the first fight in terms of up until the point of the stoppage. And he lost,” Booth said.

Booth was then asked how he feels Groves looks now that the fighter is no longer working with him.

“I genuinely haven’t assessed that. I have enough on a daily basis to be obsessed about.”

It’s not necessarily that Groves is doing specific things wrong because he’s no longer with Booth, the trainer said.

“Every fighter makes mistakes. It’s not a question of whether he makes mistakes that he didn’t make with me. He made mistakes,” Booth said. “I think his best chance was in the first fight, and he didn’t win it. I think that Carl adjusted in the second fight, and I think from the outside maybe they all underestimated Carl Froch. They didn’t think Carl could adjust and box differently to how he did in the first fight. Carl’s got a big amateur background, and he made adjustments and he won the fight.”
