WBC featherweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez (55-8, 47KOs) is hoping that his rematch with Abner Mares (26-1-1, 14KOs), scheduled for February 15th at Staples Center in Los Angeles, will last longer than one round.

The first time they met, on August 24th at the StubHub Center, Gonzalez caught Mares cold in the first round and finished him off a few moments later. Mares was down twice before the fight was waved off and the boxing observers were shocked with the outcome.

"People were surprised with my win, but for me it was no surprise, because in my mind I always knew that I would win. However, for everyone else the result was unexpected, especially with the way that I won in the first round," Gonzalez said.

"Hopefully this fight goes longer than it did in our previous bout. Abner will think differently, he will be working with another strategy. He now realizes that his punch is not going to hold me off. I imagine that he will come out boxing, and he's not going to want to trade punches with me."
