This Saturday from the O2 Arena in London, England, WBC/IBO/WBA/IBF middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (35-0, 32KOs) faces IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook. A week later on September 17th, Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (47-1-1, 33KOs) takes on WBO junior middleweight titlist Liam Smith.

The question is, a year from now will Golovkin and Alvarez meet, should they continue their winning ways?

A clash between the two is arguably the biggest fight in all of boxing but after Alvarez vacated the WBC middleweight belt - rather than face Golokvin in a mandatory defense this fall - it was announced by the two sides - K2 Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions - that this fight would take place next September, although there was no binding agreement to ensure that.

So at this point next year will we be looking forward to this match-up?

"Gennady and Abel are 100 percent focused on the fight with Brook, it's a huge fight for him, it opens up a whole new market for him in the UK," said Tom Loeffler, the managing director of K2 Promotions, to BoxingScene.com.

"It's my job to look forward and try to put fights together for him but you can't wait for guys to agree to fight him. So we take it fight-by-fight and continue to make the biggest fights possible for him with every fight."

When Loeffler was asked if there have been on-going discussions with Golden Boy regarding a 'Canelo' fight, he told BoxingScene:

"There were some original discussions after the last fight but there really hasn't been anything really discussed, recently. So we'll see. Gennady's got to win this fight and 'Canelo' has to win his fight. That's the thing about waiting for fights - if somebody loses or gets sidetracked then it can definitely backfire by waiting while the fight is hot."

If Golovkin beats Brook as expected this weekend, you wont see him ringside at Canelo-Smith as he was on May 7th when the Mexican star faced Amir Khan.

"No, we have no plans of that because 'Canelo' is not obligated to fight Gennady, anymore," explained Loeffler. "We were there when Gennady was his WBC mandatory and at this point 'Canelo' can fight whoever he wants, he's not obligated to fight Gennady. So there's really no point in being in Dallas."
