Oleg Hermann, the manager of Gennady Golovkin, speaking to FIGOsport:

"Much has been said about the situation in the WBA middleweight division in the last couple of days. It has been very surprising for us to read articles stating that all of parties involved had accepted that Gennady Golovkin would face Milton Nunez for the interim title and Hassan N´Dam would fight Avantandil Khurtzide for the vacant regular title. I think there is a big misunderstanding on the press side."

"Gennady was appointed to be the official challenger to Felix Sturm, who was the WBA champion by that time. Felix Sturm had suddenly the idea to become the super champion. In doing so, he managed to get out of the way of Gennady.  Thus, Gennady did not get his chance to fight for the World Championship, because his opponent ran away. Thereafter, Antony Mundine declined to fight against Gennady after a purse bid for the World Championship bout. Thus, Gennady did not get his second chance to fight for the World Championship, because his second opponent ran away. Thereafter, we started the negotiations with the management of Hassan N’Dam. Suddenly in the middle of the negotiating process, N’Dam was in the mood for a fight in Marocco in July. His management cancelled the negotiation with us. Thus, Gennady did not get his third chance to fight for the World Championship, because his third opponent ran away."

"Thereafter we had spoken to every boxer in the top 10 of the WBA rankings. By the way, one of these boxers was Mr. Kursidze. At that time, all of them had vacation plans, the flu, bout appointments or plans for something else. No one wanted to fight against Gennady. Milton Nunez was not in the top 10 of the WBA rankings, so the fight against him was authorized as the interim championship.

Now, the team of Hassan N’Dam has announced the fight N’Dam/Kursidze in Paris for the regular WBA championship. I am wondering how – with the described history -  a fight for the WBA regular championship can be conducted without Gennady. He was the official challenger. He should have fought 3 times for the championship, if his opponents had not run away. He is now the interim champion. I do not get it straight how the next WBA championship can be arranged without Gennady. It is completely unfounded and without any logic."

"We have illustrated our point of view to the representatives of the WBA. [WBA President] Mr. Gilberto Mendoza has informed us that the WBA committee would analyze the situation in the Middleweight division and a resolution would be made promptly. We are sure and confident that the committee will make its resolution for the benefit of Gennady."
