Oleg Hermann, the manager for WBA "regular" middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, was upset with some of the recently published comments which came from Kirill Pchelnikov, the promoter for WBO middleweight champion Dmitry Pirog. Pchelnikov claimed in a recent interview that Golovkin's handlers had never sent them an offer for a potential unification, and he later called Felix Sturm the real WBA middleweight champion, and he also advised Golovkin to get a few more fights under his belt in order to build his name.

"According to my information, Priog's American promoter is Artie Pelullo, who works with Pchelnikov. I personally approached Pelullo twice about holding a fight between Golovkin and Pirog - the first time I wanted it to happen this past summer in Panama, where Gennady boxed with Kassim Ouma, and the second time I approached him was in autumn, a few days after Pirog's fight against Martirosyan. Both times, my proposal was rejected," Hermann said.

"Apparently, the transatlantic exchange of information between the two is not too fast. Secondly, as we all know, in boxing there are 4 major federations and each has its own 'regular' champion. Some of these federations pile up a bit with the distribution of these honors. The WBA and WBC exist at the moment with Felix Sturm (super champion WBA) and Sergio Martinez (Diamond champion, Emeritus champion). Sturm, the so -called "super champion, is fleeing from a fight with Gennady and renouncing the world championship belt. I think we all know why. But we all know that he probably spent the last two years avoiding a fight with Gennady and I am sure that his running will be over soon."
