Abel Sanchez, trainer of WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin (33-0, 30KOs), says his boxer is not necessarily chasing a fight with Miguel Cotto - but is actually chasing the WBC middleweight title which Cotto currently holds.

Golovkin was ringside on Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, as he watched Cotto demolish Daniel Geale in four rounds. Golovkin blasted out Geale in three rounds last year.

The WBC ordered the Cotto-Geale winner to face Golovkin next. That is not going to happen. Cotto is already making plans to face Saul "Canelo" Alvarez in the fall. The WBC will sanction that fight - if a step aside deal is reached with Golovkin and his team.

If no step aside deal is reached, Cotto will likely vacate the title.

Cotto's decision makes no difference to Sanchez. If the Puerto Rican star vacates, they are ready to fight whoever the WBC orders them to face for the vacant title.

"It's not so much Cotto that we're after. We're after the 160-pound title. Gennady wants to see who's who at 160-pounds. If it's Cotto then it's Cotto, but it doesn't seem like he's heading our direction so we'll go after that title if he vacates," Sanchez told BoxingScene.com.
