The newly crowned interim-World Boxing Council (WBC) middleweight champion, Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28KOs), is going to hit Mexico next month to official receive his green and gold belt. Already the WBA/IBO champion, he picked up the WBC interim last Saturday night at the StubHub Center in Carson, with a second round knockout of champion Marco Antonio Rubio.

Golovkin now becomes the mandatory challenger to full champion Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico.

The President of the WBC, Mauricio Sulaiman, said: "We're having a visit from Golovkin, in the first fifteen days of November to make the official presentation of the belt. He will be making a visit to our very emotional country, because he has always expressed his admiration for Mexican boxing and the champions we have had. We are glad to have him in the ranks of world champions of the Council."

"Golovkin was very pleased, as a child he dreamed of being a champion of the Council, and told me at the end of the fight [with Rubio that] his dream was to have the green belt and he did it and now wants to be the overall champion. He is an attraction in the business, besides being a great person fighter."
