Super lightweight prospect David Mijares (4-0) made his professional debut last May on the Canelo Alvarez-Amir Khan undercard in Las Vegas, Nevada. He pitched a shutout, defeating Omar Reyes 40-36 on all three of the judges scorecards.

His most recent fight took place in October, when he blasted out Jason Gavino in the first round of their bout that took place at the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles as part of the LA Fight Club series.

After the short night's work, Mijares is eager to get back to work.

"It feels good (to know I have a fight scheduled) man. I can knock off the little bit of rust that I gathered over the holidays. I am getting nice and sharp again and I am ready to get back in action," Mijares explained.

The 21-year-old Southern California native had his original opponent fall out for his scheduled February 3rd return to the ring and should have his new opponent finalized soon. His bout is part of a six fight card that will also be part of Golden Boy's LA Fight Club development series.

Staying active is the key for Mijares. His next fight will be his first scheduled for six rounds and after fighting four times last year, he hopes to have an even more active year in 2017. With his promoter Golden Boy Promotions' new output deal with ESPN, that shouldn't be a problem.

"We are trying to get a minimum of five fights this year. Four would be okay but we want to get five or more. They are all scheduled for six rounds. I want to stay busy," said Mijares.

Even though he his still a few years away from contender status, Mijares is a student of the game and is very aware of the top fighters in and around his division. While Terence Crawford is widely considered the top dog at 140 pounds, Mijares feels the division is brimming with talent.

"I think the division is absolutely stacked. There are so many good fights that will be made and can be made. From 135-154 there are so many fighters you almost lose track of everyone. It is a stacked division and I am ready to get to it. I can't wait to see what 2017 brings me," Mijares told BoxingScene.com.
