Luis Feliciano (12-0, 8KOs) and Genaro Gamez (9-0, 6KOs) are two rising prospects on the rise who meet at the crossroads in the latest edition of Golden Boy DAZN Thursday Night Fights at Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, Calif.

The 10-round super lightweight heat headlines Thursday’s show, which streams live on RingTV.com as well as Golden Boy Promotions’ official Facebook page.

Also on the show, always entertaining Blair “The Flair” Cobbs (11-0-1, 7KOs) and Steve Villalobos (11-0-1, 9KOS) meet in a scheduled 10-round battle of unbeaten welterweights.

UNDERCARD

Richard Acevedo was forced to go to the scorecards for the first time in his young career and was considered fortunate to survive the experience with his unbeaten record remaining intact. The rising prospect from Oxnard, Calif. by way of Kansas was the benefactor of a generous split decision draw verdict versus Jose Carlos Rivera.

The six-round super welterweight heat saw Connecticut’s Rivera (8-4-1, 5KOs) consistently outwork and outpunch Acevedo (5-0-1, 5KOs). Such work by the visiting underdog was only properly recognized on one scorecard ruling 59-55 in his favor. Somehow, the same score was awarded to Acevedo on the scorecard of Dr. Lou Moret, a once-great but now badly faded ring official who either had the boxers missed up or was simply unapologetic in scoring for the house fighter. A third card of 57-57 left the heat at a stalemate.

Acevedo had never been past three rounds prior to the contest.

Unbeaten super welterweight Raul Curiel remains a knockout every time out at Fantasy Springs Casino, his latest coming in the form of a 6th round stoppage of Florida’s Alphonso Black.

An accumulation of punches prompted referee Edward Hernandez to deem Black (8-7-1, 4KOs) unfit to continue early in round six. Mexico’s Curiel (7-0, 5KOs) has now scored four stoppage wins in as many venue appearances.
