UIC Pavilion, Chicago - In the quarter-finals of the World Boxing Super Series cruiserweight tournament, former world champion Krzysztof Glowacki (32-1, 19 KOs) won a twelve round unanimous decision over Maksim Vlasov (44-3, 25 KOs) to capture the vacant WBO interim-world title. The scores were 118-110, 117-110 and 115-112.

Glowacki will now move forward to face former WBC champion Mairis Briedis in the WBSS semi-finals.

Glowacki, who lost the WBO world title to Oleksandr Usyk in September 2016, had won four straight coming into this contest.

And the last time Vlasov tasted defeat was back in January 2015, when he lost a twelve round decision to Gilberto Ramirez at super middleweight (catch-weight of 170). He moved up to light heavyweight and then to cruiserweight, winning twelve fights in a row, with eight knockouts in a row, as he entered the WBSS.

Vlasov was rocked in the very first round from a right hook off the break. He was able to eventually shake it off as Glowacki pressed forward. It was a rough and dirty fight in the second, with a lot of wrestling and holding.

In the third, Glowacki picked up a two point round when Vlasov tripped from a glancing blow - but the referee ruled it as a knockdown. Vlasov was applying a lot of pressure in the fourth. He was getting hit for his trouble, but making it a fight. The fight got much closer in the fifth, with the two boxers trading at close range.

Vlasov was starting to land more often as they continued in the sixth and he was making things tough for Glowacki. In the seventh, Vlasov was rocked by a right hand, but continued to come forward and apply pressure. Glowacki was outlanding him with bigger shots.

The clinches and wrestling continued in the eight and ninth rounds, which prompted the referee to warn both fighters of being penalized. Glowacki was still landing the better shots at this point.

Glowacki landed a big shot to start off the eleventh round, with Vlasov weathering the storm and continuing to be game in the bout. Vlasov's face was a mess by the end of the twelfth and final round, as there were several areas that were swelling up bad from punches and head clashes.
