Former WBA/WBO light flyweight champion Giovanni Segura (33-4-1, 29 KOs) finally made his return to the ring on Saturday night at the Commerce Hotel & Casino in Commerce, California.

His power punching ability was on display when he stopped overmatched opponent Ernesto Guerrero (22-18, 15 KOs) in three rounds.

Segura broke him down with punches to the head and body before the fight was finally waved off in the third after Guerrero hit the floor and was unable to beat the referee's count of ten.

It's not entirely clear where Segura will end up. He weighed in as the featherweight, at 125-pounds, while Guerrero came in a shade above the super bantamweight limit of 122.

Segura, who in his last fight weighed in at 112-pounds, will not compete as a featherweight in the future. He is likely going to end up at the super flyweight limit of 115-pounds.

The victory snapped a near two-year layoff. He wasn't active since September of 2014, when he was knocked out by WBA/WBO flyweight champion Juan Francisco Estrada in eleven rounds. That defeat snapped a three fight winning streak after being upset by Edgar Sosa over twelve in 2013.

Segura was scheduled to fight late last year in a possible fight with WBA  interim-super flyweight world champion Luis 'El Nica' Concepcion. A the fight drew closer, Segura withdrew from the contest and was later replaced by Tyson Marquez.

The reason for passing on Marquez was due to Segura being a frontrunner to face WBC flyweight champion Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez in an HBO televised fight earlier this year. Segrua's gamble did not pay off, as he was passed over in favor of Puerto Rico amateur standout McWilliams Arroyo. The network had some concerns with the selection of  Segura due to his long layoff and the fact that he was coming off a knockout loss.
