Ginny Fuchs' Olympic dream ends on a sour note.

The Houston southpaw suffered a repeat loss to Bulgaria's Stoyka Krastva, this time coming in the Round of 16 in the flyweight division at the Tokyo Olympics. Krasteva—a 2012 Olympian who fought under her maiden name Stoyka Petrova—prevailed by scores of 30-27, 30-27, 30-27, 29-28 and 29-28 Thursday evening at Kokugikan Arena in Tokyo.

After overcoming a massive height disadvantage in her Round of 32 win over Svetlana Soluianova on Sunday, Fuchs was presented with the opportunity to pick on somebody her own size. The battle of southpaws was a familiar one, with the two having fought this past February and with Krasteva winning a split decision.

Fuchs fought with purpose in the opening round, perhaps not with revenge in mind but simply to fulfill her lifelong dream of winning an Olympic Gold medal. Krasteva was able to time Fuchs coming in, landing enough left hands to win the round on three of the five scorecards.

It was a similar pattern to her win over Soluianova, where Fuchs had to dig out of a hole in order to prevail. The major difference was that it didn't play out that way, this time around.

Krasteva's ability to beat Fuchs to the punch and get her timing down was well rewarded by the judges, all five of whom awarded round two in favor of the Bulgarian.

Fuchs needed a big round three in order to pull out a victory, but it never came close to materializing. Krasteva refused to sit on her lead, continuing to apply pressure as Fuchs was unable to turn the tide or land a game-changing shot.

It could be the end of Fuchs' amateur career, as the 33-year old southpaw will likely turn pro in the near future.

As for Krasteva, it's another trip to the quarterfinals. It comes three years after she actually chose to retire from amateur boxing, only to be convinced by her husband as well as her head coach to return which she did one year later.

USA is now 9-4 overall, with the women's team now at 2-3.
